Rising star actor Houston Stevenson always had a passion for acting from a young age. He pursued the arts at Collingwood school and Shawnigan Lake School on Vancouver island.
He was born in Vancouver BC on February 25- 1995 to parents David and Ronnie Stevenson, his mother is an American thus Houston had dual citizenship and after graduation moved to Hollywood California where he won a scholarship to AMDA – The American Acadamy of fine Arts.
He grew up predominately between Vancouver BC and London England. After graduating from Shawnigan Lake School, he spent most of his time in California studying and acting, where he also trained with Ivana Chubbuck.
As an actor we are always learning, Stevenson would say, and so training did not stop there he went on to perfect his craft with renowned acting coach Andy Johnson, while living in London, and at The Vancouver Film School and under the direction of highly accredited Deb Podowski.
His Agent Lisa Kirk said the world lost a future Hollywood legend, a leading man whose talent was exceptional. Houston was something we do not see come around often, we are beyond and profoundly saddened by the news of his passing.
His acting journey began when Houston was working as a production assistant for the Disney movie “Descendants 2”, and had met director Kenny Ortega who helped launch his career, and also became a dear friend and mentor to Houston, he also gave him a roll in the musical.
It was not long after that Houston appeared in Izombie, Arrow, Disney Decendants, 1 and 2, and a lead actor in, Project McSq, Martha’s Vineyard, Fear Pharm, A Predator Returns, and Sequel A Stalkers Prey and more. Stevenson was on his way and just getting going.
Houston was a method actor and said while acting and in real life “I wear my heart on my sleeve, I bring a lot of emotion to the characters I’m playing as I am very sensitive in general. When I’m not acting I love to be on the water, or hiking to keep fit. I’m very spiritual and find being in the mountains keeps me energized and grounded which I find brings me calming life energy.”
“I am passionate about ocean and marine life conservation and the freeing of captive whales and dolphins. Ashton Kutcher also inspired me to want to do more, and bring awareness to sex trafficking and the exploitation of children, along with my good friend Julia Verdin”, whom Houston lived with in the Hollywood Hills, he continued to say “there is nothing more evil in my eyes than the harming of innocent children.”
Stevenson said “I try to keep myself centred, and never forget that while we are living we are learning, we must remember to give back to the earth, and to each other, (humanity) and to leave the world a better place.”
Stevenson struggled with depression and alcohol related issues which he desperately tried to tackle. In the very early morning hours of July 5th Houston lost that battle, we now mourn and grieve a beautiful soul gone too soon.
