A Strong Start for Mumbai’s Bowlers
Mumbai Indians bowled first after winning the toss, and their bowlers did a great job. Nat Sciver-Brunt started strong, taking a wicket on just the second ball!
She dismissed GG’s captain, Beth Mooney, who had scored fifty in the first match. Sciver-Brunt also got the wicket of Ash Gardner, an in-form hitter, making it challenging for GG.
Other MI bowlers assisted also. Shabnim Ismail got Laura Wolvaardt out, and Hayley Matthews grabbed three wickets, including one with the help of an excellent catch by Amelia Kerr.
After the first six overs (PowerPlay), GG’s batters had lost four wickets for a meager 28 runs as they struggled to score runs.
Gujarat Giants Struggle to Build a Big Score
GG’s batters continued to make mistakes and lose wickets after the PowerPlay. Deandra Dottin tried to play an attacking shot but got stumped for just seven runs. Kashvee Gautam played well, scoring 20 runs in 15 balls, but she also got out quickly.
Harleen Deol, who batted at number five, was the only one who stayed on the pitch for some time.
She scored 32 runs in 31 balls, helping GG achieve a total of 120 runs before all their bats got out in 20 overs. MI’s bowlers did a great job, with Matthews taking three wickets, Kerr getting two, and Sciver-Brunt also taking two wickets.
Mumbai Indians’ Chase – Sciver-Brunt Leads the Way
Mumbai needed 121 runs to win. Their batters started well, but Gujarat Giants also took some early wickets.
Matthews hit a couple of good shots but got out soon. Yastika Bhatia, too, lost her wicket, trying to play a huge shot.
However, Sciver-Brunt kept playing smartly and scored a fantastic half-century (57 runs).
She got good support from Amelia Kerr, who played a few attacking shots to help MI get closer to the target. They had a 45-run partnership, which made the chase easy.
Although MI lost a few more wickets, they still won the match in just 16.1 overs. The team celebrated winning the WPL 2025 for the first time!
