How To Clean The Pool Purifier
What is the pool filter for?
The filter, together with the pump, are the most important parts of a pool purifier. The pool water enters through the bottom of the filter and returns to the pool through the top, leaving all the particles trapped in the filter bed.
The filter has two vital components: the pressure gauge that tells us when it is time to wash it and the selector valve, which is responsible for telling the filter what operation we are going to perform (cleaning, rinsing, recirculation, emptying, etc.).
When should you wash the filter?
When the pressure gauge approaches the red zone, it is time to wash the filter. Never let it enter the red zone.
Filter washing
- Once the purifier has stopped, the sump and skimmer valves are opened, while the pool cleaner valve remains closed and the selector valve is put in the washing position.
- The purifier is turned on for approximately 2 minutes. During this process, the pump is responsible for taking water from the pool through the drain.
- At the top of the filter, there is a window through which you can see the cloudy water passing through. When it is transparent, the washing operation is complete.

Rinse
- Rinsing must always be carried out after washing, so the purifier is stopped, and, keeping the suction valves in the position they were in, the selector valve is put in the rinsing position.
- This operation removes any dirt that may have remained at the bottom of the filter, expelling the water into the drain.
- The task usually takes about 15 seconds. After these minutes, the purifier is stopped and the selector valve is set to the filtering position.
Finally
After this, you have to rinse the sand or glass of the filter, since all the dirt from the water has been trapped in it.
With the purifier pump stopped, the sump valves are kept in place and the selector valve is moved from the washing position to the rinsing position.
Now the water enters the filter through the top and goes down cleaning the filter bed, exiting through the bottom to go directly to the drain.
This operation is shorter than the previous one, taking about 15 seconds to complete. Once this time has elapsed, the purifier is stopped and the selector valve is set to the normal filtering position.
With these two steps, the purifier filter has been effectively cleaned and is ready to keep the water in our pool in good condition.
