A Thrilling Journey with Kia: Test Driving the Stinger in Style
The Invitation: A Press Trip with Kia
When the invitation for a Kia press trip appeared in my inbox, I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement. Kia certainly knows how to treat their guests, and this trip promised to be no exception. It’s not every day that you get to experience luxury and adventure in one package, and Kia had all the ingredients for an unforgettable journey.
On Monday evening, I packed my bags and headed to Gatwick Airport’s Hilton Hotel, where we would stay overnight. The goal was to ensure everyone was well-rested and ready for the early morning flight to Cornwall. Determined not to miss my alarm or flight, I slept lightly, almost keeping one eye open throughout the night!
Flying to Cornwall: The Journey Begins
The next morning kicked off with a quick pancake breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Afterward, I met up with Sara Robinson from Kia and the other attendees, including fellow Northerner Siobhan (aka Just a Uniform), Renata Fernandes, Curtis Moldrich, Ben Griffin, and Craig Hammond. We were all buzzing with excitement as we headed to the airport for our flight to Newquay, Cornwall. Although the itinerary was tightly packed, Kia had managed to squeeze in some unexpected surprises along the way!
Once we touched down at Newquay Airport, we were whisked away in a Kia Stinger-branded bus straight to the VIP lounge. There, we were greeted with coffee and bacon sandwiches, setting the tone for what would be an incredible day.
A Grand Entrance: The Stinger Makes a Statement
As we drove along the runway, we were suddenly interrupted by an announcement over the bus’s speaker system. Something about an emergency landing? Panic began to creep in, but surprisingly, no one seemed too worried. And then it happened—three bright red Kia Stingers raced past us on the runway, showcasing all 365 bhp of power on the very tarmac used for planes! It was a scene straight out of Top Gear, with the cars zooming by like precision jets. What a sight!
This was the ultimate introduction to the Kia Stinger, and I couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel.
Lunch in Padstow: A Taste of Cornwall
Once we had settled in at the VIP lounge with some refreshments, we were divided into teams of two. Naturally, I paired up with Siobhan, and we were handed the keys to our very own Stinger. Our mission? To drive to Rick Stein’s renowned The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, where we had a lunch reservation for 12:30 p.m.
Driving the Stinger was an absolute joy—smooth, powerful, and undeniably stylish. We arrived at Rick Stein’s right on time, where we were greeted by a bustling yet cozy car park. The menu at the restaurant was vast, and after much deliberation, I decided to start with the seared octopus, followed by a mouthwatering lobster for my main course. I knew I’d need all the fuel I could get before it was my turn to drive this beast of a car!
Back on the Road: Chasing Adventure
After lunch, we embarked on a quest to find some scenic spots for a photo session with the Stinger. Unfortunately, the Cornish weather wasn’t on our side, and time was tight, so we couldn’t capture the perfect shots. However, our journey wasn’t completely uneventful—we managed to make a new friend along the way.
The rest of the drive back to Bovey Castle was all about enjoying the car’s luxurious features. If you want a glimpse of the action, be sure to check out my vlog, where you can see everything from our fabulous lobster lunch to our test drive of the Stinger’s high-end gadgets. I also share my spa experience at Bovey Castle and an impromptu outfit shoot wearing a stunning red Reiss Zhen burnout-detail midi dress.
Final Impressions: The Kia Stinger Experience
Despite a minor packing mishap (I forgot my hairbrush and straighteners—oops!), the day was nothing short of glamorous. I embraced my tousled natural waves and even pretended to channel a 1940s Hollywood starlet, which paired perfectly with the vintage glam of the Reiss dress. And, of course, I can’t forget to mention the stylish Stinger itself—a car that demands attention, whether you’re on a runway or a scenic drive through the countryside.
A big thank you goes to Siobhan for capturing some fabulous photos of me and the car. This test-drive experience with Kia was a glimpse into the lifestyle that Stinger owners can look forward to. If I were to purchase one, it would definitely have to be in that eye-catching red. The Kia Stinger is more than just a car—it’s the ideal companion for a thrilling road trip, with rear-wheel drive and power that’s always ready to go.
